Principe and function
EMS pushes molten metal(eg. ligquid steel) to move, and control solidification structure of billet by enhancing convetion, heat transfer and mass transfer of liquid steel, so as to refine crystals, increase equiaxed zone, and decrease center segregation, which makes significant effect in improving the surface and inner quality of billet.
The principle of electromagnetic stirrer(EMS) is the same as that of three-phase asynchronous motor. Stirrer is equal to stator of synchronous motor and conductive molten metal is equal to rotor of motor
Classification
According to different installation positions in casting machine, MES can be divided to M-EMS, S-EMS, F-EMS.
Accroding to materials to be stirrerd, EMS can be divided into ferrous metal electromagnetic stirrer(csting steel stirrer, most favorable so far), non-ferrous electromagnetic stirrer(copper, aluminum, magnesium, etc.)
Accroding to shapes of metal, MES can be divided to EMS for bloom, round and slab.
According to magnetic field, EMS can be divided to rotation magnetic field and traveling magnetic field. Rotation magnetic field EMS is mostly used for bloom and round, traveling magnetic field EMS is mostly used for slab
Advantage:
M-EMS can increase equiaxed zone, reduce air holes and pinholes, reduce inclusion in the surface and subsurface, equalize billet crust, reduce center segregation and porosity. It is applicable for steel grades as low alloy steel, spring steel, cold rolling steel, medium and high carbon steel.
